For the second time in the past few years, ownership of the California Gift Show changed hands – this time from Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. to Urban Expositions. In 2009, as part of the slimming down of dmg world media’s gift show portfolio, the event was sold to MMPI. Other regions of the world may be experiencing economic troubles, but according to a recent survey released by the HongKong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association, the exhibition industry in Hong Kong is thriving. Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centrehas appointed Arun Madhok as acting Chief Executive Officer, effective 18th June 2012. Madhok joined Suntec Singapore as Chief Operating Officer in 2009, and has been credited with the development of strategies and modernisation programme that is currently in progress. Former CEO, Pieter Idenburg, has left the company after seven years to explore other opportunities.

The Thai Government is looking to private companies to manage the new Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Center. The venue is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter this year after several months of delay due to construction problems. The government reportedly has the budget allocated to hire a professional management company for the venue.
