The Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) drew more buyers and record orders at its 20th anniversary edition held March 4-8. The five-day show had estimated sales of US$892 million and a 6 percent jump in attendees to 19,472 visitors, including 6,171 international buyers from 141 countries and regions. Because of increased exhibit space demand, an additional hall will be used for the second staging of ProWine China, providing 50 percent more space. This exhibition for wines and spirits in China will take place from Nov. 12-14 in the SNIEC exhibition center in Shanghai. ProWine China will be held alongside FHC China, the country’s leading trade fair for imported food. Last November, when Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines, beyond the loss of life and overall destruction, the country also dealt with a perception challenge in the aftermath. Messe München International is moving ISPO BEIJING to a time slot one month earlier than usual in 2015, pushing it closer to Salt Lake City, Utah-based Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. ISPO BEIJING now will be held Jan. 28-31 at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing, and Outdoor Retailer is on tap Jan. 20-24. This one-time change for the Beijeing-based show was necessary because of the Chinese New Year, which is celebrated during the usual date range for ISPO BEIJING. PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, has moved PACK EXPO East 2015 to Feb. 16–18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, citing the need to meet exhibitor demand. Las Vegas boasts that events that come to town often see substantial attendance upticks, and this year’s Society of Independent Show Organizers’ CEO Summit, held March 30-April 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel, was no exception. Tradeshow organizers are sitting on top of a plethora of data these days. There is data being collected via registrations and housing systems, social media, surveys and mobile event apps. The upside to this digital world and the mountain of data that comes along with it is that shows are able to really drill down into what their attendees, exhibitors and sponsors really want from an event.
