According to media reports, plans to build two convention centres in India have been revealed. The first, announced by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTCD), is planned for Nashik in the state of Maharashtra – located 180km from Mumbai and 202km from Pune. The venue site is proposed 10km from Nashik’s city centre, and will include residential and conference facilities for up to 1,000 delegates with potential supporting amenities to include an amusement park and water sports attraction. U.K.-based Reed Exhibitions has reiterated the international expansion opportunities in Indonesia and Brazil following the release of parent group Reed Elsevier’s first half financial results. In Asia in particular, Reed’s main expansion activities this year includes the formation of a partnership with India-based event management company Manch Communications, a joint venture in China to launch Reed Hongda Exhibitions, and a second joint venture in Indonesia to establish Reed Panorama Exhibitions. Recently concluded consumer products event, the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair (GMBPF), attracted more than 136,000 attendees from the 2nd to 5th August this year. The fair is jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province. Cashmere World will move from Beijing to Hong Kong in September this year. The organisers, UBM and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-products (CFNA), announced the first Hong Kong edition of Cashmere World will be held together with Fashion Access, another UBM event, Sept. 27-29 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Nielsen Expositions’ Medtrade 2012 still is two months out from opening its doors Oct. 16-18 at the Georgia World Congress Center, but it already has nearly sold out of all of its exhibit space. Space sold quickly, with 90 percent of the floor booked just two months after its April show wrapped with the trend continuing through the summer months. Susan Huff, director of global conventions for Medtronic, was named president of the Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association (HCEA) for 2012-2013. Huff assumed the role of HCEA president during the 2012 HCEA Annual Meeting that was held June 23-26 in Orlando. Huff has been in the convention industry for almost 30 years, working for Medtronic for 25 of those years, and has held a variety of convention-related positions. This week, the American Society of Association Executives wrapped up their annual convention in Dallas on a high note, showing a 12-percent increase in their numbers and the most-attended event since it was held in Chicago six years earlier.   This year’s annual meeting was the highest seen since 2007.
