Just days before the official ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the grand opening of Cleveland’s Global Center for Health Innovation, venue management company SMG has been recommended for not only that venue’s contract, but also the one for the adjacent Cleveland Convention Center. Building off the success of its popular Web site, HealthyChildren.org, the American Academy of Pediatrics will launch the Healthy Children Conference & Expo March 8-9 in Rosemont. As part of the final piece of the Sunshine Act that went fully into effect Aug. 1, all pharmaceutical, medical device, biological, and medical supply manufacturers have to report to the Health and Human Services (HHS) any "payment or other transfer of value" to physicians, including any giveaways at medical and pharmaceutical trade shows and meetings. These requirements apply if a manufacturer sells or distributes at least one covered drug, device, biologic or medical supply. In the midst of renegotiating contracts with the six unions that work at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, members of Local Eight of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America walked out of talks and went on strike this morning.
