Advanstar Communications’ Licensing Expo will not only have four new areas merchandised by category for the first time, but also several key exhibitors have decided to expand their presence at the June 18-20 show at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The four new areas are Art and Design, Characters andEntertainment, Agents and Brands and Fashion. Hanley Wood Exhibitions' World of Concrete showed about a five percent increase in attendance and exhibit space, compared with last year, when it ran in Feb. 5–8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. There were 1,286 companies exhibited on 605,681 net square feet of space. Attendance was at approximately 55,000, compared with 52,088 last year. Coming out of one of the worst economic periods in United States’ history, Las Vegas scored its highest visitor attendance record yet in 2012, and, while convention attendance was only up 1.6 percent from the prior year, the number of meetings and conventions held in the city were up more than 13 percent, compared with 2011. Las Vegas welcomed 39.7 million visitors in 2012, approximately 500,000 more visitors than the previous high of 39.2 million set in 2007. The Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show and the Tailgating Industry Association has been acquired by Nielsen Expositions. The acquisition is effective immediately. CTIA-The Wireless Association will combine its larger, annual CTIA Wireless trade show, which is focused on technology and consumer electronics, and its smaller MobileCON event, with an emphasis on mobile IT solutions, into one ‘super mobile show’ in 2014. The Consumer Electronics Association has launched a new program with the Startup America Partnership, a national network of communities dedicated to advancing the success of American start-ups, for the 2013 International CES, on tap Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas. Mermaids, Hawaiian shirts and just about every type of equipment needed for a treasure hunt in a shipwreck took the spotlight at the 2012 DEMA Show, the world's largest trade-only event for the scuba diving, ocean sports and dive travel industries. Burning rubber, work-of-art rides and a Hackathon were just part of the action at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show that took place Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
