Last month, Tourism Vancouver signed a pioneering technology deal with China industry giant Tencent in an effort to attract more Chinese tourism, now known as the world’s fastest-growing travel market.
This first-of-its-kind deal will include Tencent Travel and its partner, Trip Advisor China, working to promote Vancouver as an international model for smart city tourism.

Marketplace Events has purchased two shows from O’Loughlin Trade Shows, the largest producer of consumer shows in the Pacific Northwest.
Marketplace Events now will operate both the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival, held each February at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle and the Tacoma Home & Garden Show, held in January at the Tacoma Dome.

With the trade show industry continuing to grow, according to the latest Center for Exhibition Industry Research, there were plenty of new hires and promotions up the ranks recently.
The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), owned by the City of Los Angeles and managed by AEG Facilities, welcomed Nancy Walker as the new vice president of Sales and Marketing.
Walker joins the LACC with more than 20 years’ experience in the events and trade show industry, most recently as the director of sales, North America at Reed Travel Exhibitions.

UBM India opened its Concrete Show India 2018 on 24th May at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) in Mumbai. The event concluded on 26th May.
Now in its 6th edition, the Concrete Show India addressed several key areas for the construction and infrastructure industries including roads and highways, housing, airports, ports, power rail, tunnels, dams and bridges. Chinaplas 2018, the leading international trade show serving the plastics and rubber industry, concluded its recent edition in Shanghai in late April. The organiser reports that this year’s edition attracted nearly 181,000 professional trade visitors. That figure represents an increase of 22% over the previous edition held in Shanghai in 2016.

Earlier this week, Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released its MICE statistics for the first quarter of 2018. A total of 328 MICE events were held in Macau in the quarter, representing a decrease of 38 events compared with the same quarter last year.
However, the total number of participants and attendees increased by 25% year-on-year reaching 278,000 participants at MICE events in the quarter. Verventia Pte Limited, the owner of the Singapore and Thailand Yacht Shows, and Asia RendezVous Pte Limited, organiser of the Phuket, Penang and Singapore RendezVous events, announced this week that the two companies had agreed to collaborate and to produce only one yacht show in Thailand and one show Singapore.

The launch edition of Tarsus Group's Labelexpo Southeast Asia – the biggest label and package printing event in the region – has exceeded all expectations, with 7,934 attendees from 62 countries flocking to BITEC in Bangkok, Thailand for the three-day show May 10-12.
