August 13, 2013

Trade Show News Network is pleased to announce that Henry S. Givray, president and CEO of SmithBucklin, has not only been named the TSNN Awards Industry Icon honoree, but also he will be speaking on leadership at the awards’ weekend executive conference.

Givray leads the world’s largest association management and professional services company, providing full-service management and high-impact specialized services to more than 420 trade and professional associations, corporations and government institutes.

“Being named the TSNN Industry Icon Award recipient for 2013 is a great honor. Trade shows offer our client organizations meaningful, valued opportunities to network and conduct business,” Givray said.

He added, “This prestigious award spotlights our company’s commitment in this area. More importantly, it recognizes the many talented professionals at SmithBucklin, who are dedicated to producing innovative, value-creating and ultimately successful trade shows on behalf of our client organizations. I’m also excited and appreciative of the opportunity to speak at the Executive Conference and share my thoughts around leadership with so many leading event executives.”

Givray will be honored during the gala weekend celebration at the 4th Annual TSNN Awards: Celebrating Trade Show Excellence Nov. 1-3 in Reno, Nev.

Adam Schaffer, awards executive producer/emcee and vice president, Tradeshows and Exhibitions, for HelmsBriscoe, said, “I have had the privilege to know Henry for many years.  The company that he helms organizes an impressive number of events, including top and fast-growing tradeshows. Having Henry as our Industry Icon, as well as speak at our Executive Conference is something new and exciting for the TSNN Awards and will be a real treat. Our winners and guests will enjoy spending the weekend with Henry and, as leaders themselves, will truly benefit from his involvement.”

Attendees from the 50 fastest-growing shows being honored for attendance and net square footage will take part in a Friday night reception, Saturday conference and lunch that will feature a keynote by Travelocity Founder Terry Jones, followed by the awards celebration that evening and a Sunday brunch.

SmithBucklin has the most shows on the fastest-growing list this year: Dscoop7, KeHE Summer Selling Show, America’s Beauty Show and American Society for Healthcare Engineering - 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition.

During the Saturday conference, at which the chairs of both the International Association of Exhibitions and Events and the Society of Independent Show Organizers will speak on the “State of the Industry”, Givray will lead a session on “The Passion of Leadership.

Givray asks “What is Leadership?” He says we know when we see it, we can measure its impact and we can feel when it inspires us, “but leadership is an elusive concept for which there are no simple formulas or instruction manuals.”

Givray’s presentation is designed to help others identify opportunities to grow as leaders, while also building their commitment to continuous learning in this area.

During the session, he will share essential foundational principles and concepts around leadership, introduce a working framework to help attendees better understand and ultimately measure leadership capacity and performance and offer practical ideas and tools for everyday use.

Givray has penned several articles on leadership, as well as been featured in books covering the same topic. He also regularly speaks about leadership at numerous association conferences and corporate events attended by a variety of professionals across many industries.

In 2011, Givray launched the SmithBucklin Leadership Learning Forum, a unique and intensive, high-impact 12-month program for a small group of top-performing employees that exposes them to leadership concepts, principles and guidelines in order to stimulate and inspire individual learning and personal growth.

In 2013, Givray launched the SmithBucklin Leadership Institute, a six-month program for client association board members. The Leadership Institute is based on the same design, content and format of the Leadership Learning Forum.

Prior to rejoining the SmithBucklin management team in 2002, he previously worked for the company between 1983 and 1996, Givray served as chairman, president and CEO of CourtLink Corporation, an online service for retrieving court records and electronically filing legal documents to and from our nation's courts.

In December 2001, Givray also led the successful sale of CourtLink to LexisNexis, a leading global provider of information to legal, corporate, government and academic markets.

In addition, Givray has served as president and COO of Giga Information Group, an information technology services company founded by Gideon Gartner, founder and former chairman of The Gartner Group.

He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and both a B.S. and M.E. in operations research from Cornell University.
