The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) 10th anniversary year in 2015 turned out to be a banner one for international high-profile events at the venue. These included; the Global Food Safety Conference 2015; 18th Human Genome Meeting 2015; 26th and 27th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits; and the 128th International Olympic Committee Session, to name a few. VNU Exhibitions has announced its acquisition of Aquarama and Pet Asia from UBM Exhibition Singapore Pte Ltd. Aquarama is a trade show covering fish, invertebrates, plants and related accessories. Pet Asia was launched in 2007 as a collocated event to extend the show coverage to other pet supplies and services. VNU will be the exhibition organiser of both Pet Asia and Aquarama, beginning with the 2016 edition. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. During a specially convened session of the Executive Committee (Committee) Jan. 27, the Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) voted unanimously to appoint Stuart Bailey, managing director of Diversified Communications Hong Kong, as the chairman of the association for the remainder of the current term which runs until June 2016.  Bailey replaces Javed Khan, Mega-Expo, who resigned his position on health grounds earlier this month. Coex, the biggest exhibition organizer in Korea, will be expanding its exhibition organizing business in 2016, with the opening of the Stylish Life Show in Chengdu, China. The Incheon Convention & Visitors Bureau, located in Incheon, South Korea, has become the latest convention and visitors bureau to be certified to an international sustainability standard for the meetings and event industry. The Incheon CVB achieved certification to the ASTM Standard pertaining to the Evaluation and Selection of Destinations for Environmentally Sustainable Meetings, Events, Trade Shows and Conferences. The 2016 edition of Yarn Expo Spring now is less than two months away, and nearly 250 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, including China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Lithuania, Pakistan, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and Uzbekistan, have already confirmed their participation. ITE Asia has acquired a 70 percent stake in the organiser of the Fastener Expo in Shanghai and Guangzhou. Fastener Expo Shanghai is an annual event held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Fastener Expo Guangzhou, was launched in 2013 and has just held its third edition at the Guangzhou Poly Trade Expo Center. The acquisition further expands ITE’s business in Asia where it has growing interests, principally in China, India and Indonesia.
