Shows posting record attendance numbers seem to be more and more commonplace these days, with the latest one being the biennial Automate 2013, which was collocated with Material Handling Association’s ProMat 2013 and held Jan. 21-24 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. Even though there is two feet of snow forecasted to hit the Northeast beginning Feb. 8 and thousands of flights already have been canceled, the Toy Industry Association is going full steam ahead, planning to not only hold pre-show events for the American International Toy Fair, but also open the show’s doors as scheduled Feb. 10-13 at the Jacob K. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ biennial AG Connect Expo & Summit not only nearly doubled its attendance, but it also set records for exhibit space, number of exhibitor and education tickets. The 2013 show attracted nearly 11,000 registrants, compared with 5,800 registrants in 2011. (The 2011 collocated American Farm Bureau Federation had an additional 5,500 registrants.) Even though the launch of the show was announced just seven months ago, PMMI’s debut edition of EXPO PACK Guadalajara already has sold out when it’s set to run Feb. 27-March 1. “In December, we were happy to see 90 percent of the exhibit space was sold,” said Enrique Guzman, director of PMMI’s Latin America office. The 2013 International Production & Processing Expo attracted more than 25,000 attendees Jan. 29-Jan. 31 to the Georgia World Congress Center, exceeding the goal established by the three associations that run the show, according to show management. The Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show broke attendance records once again this year at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. The SHOT Show, owned and sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, attracted a record overall attendance of 62,371, including a new high for buyers and more than 2,000 media representatives. There also were 1,600-plus exhibitors who filled booth space that covered 630,000 net square feet. “Design, Innovate and Engage” was the theme for the 2013Professional Convention Management Association’s Convening Leaders annual meeting that took place Jan. 13-16 in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center.
