Wireless technology got plenty of celebrity action as Jennifer Lopez and Ashton Kutcher took center stage at CTIA 2013 Mobile Marketplace that took place May 21-23 at the Sands Convention Center. The event drew about 35,000 attendees, many of whom were watching the keynotes on their mobile devices. It's difficult to stay at an average hotel after a trip to HD Expo, the annual gathering for the hospitality design industry that took place May 15–17 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Asian-inspired Resorts World Las Vegas will add more than half a million square feet of convention space to the city when it opens in 2016. Malaysia-based Genting Group is banking on iconic Asian elements, including the replica of the Great Wall of China, red-roofed pagoda-style buildings and a panda habitat, at its new 87-acre development on the Strip. Aisles still were bustling and talk of new contracts was in the air on the closing day of the Heli-Expo 2013 that took place March 5-7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. With the recession far behind it and the equipment rental market continuing to trend upward, this year’s The Rental Show scored its fourth year in a row of increased attendance when it was held Feb. 10-13 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. The 2013 show boasted 5,365 attendees, who came from throughout the U.S., Canada and more than 40 countries. Major improvements are in the works for the Las Vegas Convention Center, some starting in the next few months.
