ASD Show Producers Set to Launch Miami Wholesale Expo
Nielsen Expositions, which produces the biannual ASD Show in Las Vegas, will launch a regional event – Miami Wholesale Expo - Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Miami Airport Convention Center.
The new event is in response to market demand for a wholesale merchandise event to expand relationships for vendors specializing in fashion accessories, travel/leisure products, health and beauty items, resort apparel and footwear, novelty and souvenir items and general merchandise, according to show officials.
The Miami Wholesale Expo is a natural extension to Nielsen’s two ASD Show flagship events, held in March and August, which attract more than 2,800 vendors and 40,000 buyers from 50 states and 88 countries.
“With a show like ASD Las Vegas, we know why people travel all over the world to attend: because buyers and sellers can meet and do so much business together over four days,” said John Banker, ASD sales director.
He added, “However, with the economy in a recovery period, we’re discovering that not everyone has the resources (time, money, etc.) to travel to the West Coast for four days, part of that over a weekend. The Miami Wholesale Expo is going to be a brand new resource for buyers and sellers in this region to expand their business opportunities. With support from our top vendors, we are confident this event will grow in the years to come.”
The event will take place on a Mon.-Weds. cycle to accommodate retailers who typically conduct a high volume of business over the weekend days.
The new Miami event isn’t the only one that’s regional, ASD also produces one in New York City each fall that caters to the general merchandise retailers in the tri-state New York area.
The Miami Airport Convention Center opened in April 2012 next to Miami International Airport and offers 172,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space, including a 29,000 sq. ft. ballroom.
The center also is located adjacent to the newly renovated Doubletree Hotel, with 334 newly renovated guest rooms, including 17 suites.
