More than 47,000 Gather for REHACARE in D�sseldorf

Messe Düsseldorf ‘s REHACARE 2011, International Trade Fair and Congress for Self-Determined Living, recently was held in Düsseldorf, Germany, and attracted more than 47,000 attendees and 747 exhibitors from 29 countries.
“REHACARE Düsseldorf is the right venue for addressing the current challenges for rehabilitation and care and for presenting means for people with disabilities (and) special care needs, as well as age-related restrictions to cope with their everyday routines as independently as possible,” said Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf.
He added, “We have struck a nerve here, especially with the REHACARE Congress – dedicated this year not only to senior-friendly living concepts, but also to the widespread condition of dementia. There is quite clearly a great need for information and awareness here among patients, family members and even among experts.”
Dr. Martin Danner, national head of the German Federal Self-Help Association for People with Disabilities and Chronic Illness and their Families, said he was “delighted with the high number of visitors at the stands of self-help groups”, according to show organizers.
“The REHACARE trade fair offers a range of products spanning from solutions suited for everyday use to smart assistance systems – thereby providing insight into the future of rehabilitation and care. And this picks up on the key themes of today,” Danner said.
He added, “For affected individuals, the trade fair is far more than an exhibition – it is the most important forum for exchanging experiences and discussing current issues relating to the disabled and health policy.”
REHACARE 2011 attendees were able to check out walking and mobility aids, vehicles and wheelchairs, as well as in aids for daily living and care on the showfloor.
“This is the sixth consecutive year we have attended REHACARE and we are very satisfied,” said Dick J. van der Pijl, an exhibitor in charge of research and development at the Dutch company FOCAL Meditec.
The REHACARE Congress drew 630 participants and focused on “Senior Living” and “Dementia”.
The REHACARE Sport Center, run by the disabled sports association BSNW, provided information for the disabled on staying fit and healthy and also was a big draw at the event.
“For us, REHACARE is the most important event for showcasing the wide range of sports for the disabled to the general public,” said BSNW Managing Director Herbert Kaul.
Next year’s REHACARE will be held Oct. 10-13 in Düsseldorf.
