The Los Angeles Convention Center has claimed bragging rights for being the first convention center in the U.S. to permanently install a 5G wireless network.
Improving on 4G LTE that currently accounts for approximately three-quarters of total mobile connections in the U.S. (excluding licensed cellular IoT), 5G is the fifth generation of wireless internet and voice services designed to move data faster and be more responsive, dramatically increasing wireless speeds and capacity to transform services such as AI, VR and video calling.

The inaugural UFI Latin American Conference presented a golden opportunity for participants to discuss common strategies for the different realities of doing business in Latin America. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has reported strong results for the financial year 2017-2018. During the year, the venue generated revenues of A$372 million (US$270 million). That represents an increase of 14% over the previous year.
According to GCCEC, the venue recorded its best performance for the sixth consecutive year. During the fiscal year, a total of 154 events were held at the venue, welcoming more than 722,000 visitors. Among the events, about 76% were MICE-related events.

Organised by Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai, the Chengdu Motor Show (CDMS) 2018 recently concluded at the Chengdu City New International Convention and Exhibition Center. The exhibition attracted more than 580,000 visitors to the show. That figure includes both trade and public visitors.
CDMS ran from 31st August to 9th September. The ten-day show featured 119 auto brands showcasing almost 1,400 vehicles, of which 71 were newly launched models. Occupying an exhibition area of 150,000 m2, the show is positioned as the leading automobile exhibition in western China.

Malaysia’s newest venue, the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) has signed an MOU with UBM Malaysia agreeing to host four events between 2019 and 2023 as well as a biennial event during the years 2019 to 2028.
The specific events were not named, but the two companies did state that they expect the events will generate MYR261 million (US$63 million) in economic impact for the local economy. According to MITEC, the venue has hosted 90 events since it opened in August last year. And MITEC reports that it has welcomed over 352,000 visitors in that period.

Last week, the 36th September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (September Fair) opened with a record-breaking number of exhibitors. It featured more than 3,700 exhibitors from around the world. The event used both major venues in Hong Kong, AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

OS+H Asia 2018, the region’s leading exhibition on workplace safety and health, recently closed in Singapore with a 15% visitor increase: more than 5,000 trade visitors from 36 countries took part over three days to see the latest innovations presented by 200 exhibitors from 20 nations.
