Interbike Partners with National Multiple Sclerosis Society on Charity Event

August 4, 2015

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society partnered with Interbike, an annual bicycle show, to present Bike MS: Las Vegas.

The fundraising cycling event will return to the Las Vegas community Sept. 19 and bring together hundreds of cyclists, volunteers, and people who want to change the course of MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system.

“MS has touched so many of us through friends and family, that when the MS Society approached us about supporting a ride in and around Interbike, we just knew we had to get involved,” said Pat Hus, vice president of Interbike.

He added, “Combining our Customer Appreciation Day, the entire bike industry and this great ride makes for a great weekend of cycling, and I hope we’re able to make a significant impact in the battle against this horrible disease.”

MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide, and through events like Bike MS, the National MS Society raises more than $80 million annually to support MS research and programs.

At Bike MS: Las Vegas,  cyclists who pay the registration fee and meet the $100 fundraising requirement also will receive a complimentary entry to Interbike’s Customer Appreciation Day Sept. 18 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Interbike’s Customer Appreciation Day allows the public to experience the latest in bikes, gear and technology from more than 1200 brands that exhibit at the trade event each year.

Besides having the opportunity to see the latest products and chat with company executives, attendees will be able to test bikes on Interbike’s new indoor test track – The Circuit presented by Shimano. Riders can hop aboard e-bikes and test their power over the on-course hill, roll through obstacles on fat bikes, and more.

Participants in the charity ride will choose between 30 and 50 mile route options, both offering spectacular views of Las Vegas.

To participate in Bike MS: Las Vegas, each rider agrees to raise a minimum of $100 to support life-changing programs and services and to fund cutting-edge research to stop progression, restore function hopefully end MS.

“We are very excited to partner with Interbike to bring Bike MS back to the Las Vegas community,” said Julie Kaufer, chapter president of the Southern California & Nevada Chapter. “This is a wonderful way for people to experience all that Interbike has to offer while raising money and awareness for a cause that impacts many people in our local communities.”

Riders can sign up as individuals or form a team. Registration is available online at www.bikeMSlasvegas.org. Donations for riders and teams are also accepted by clicking “Donate” and entering the rider’s name. For more information, contact 1-855-372-1331 or e-mail FundraisingSupport@nmss.org.
