UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry named Kai Hattendorf as its new managing director to replace Paul Woodward, who will be stepping down in November. The announcement was made on the opening day of the UFI Open Seminar in Europe, June 15-17 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Exhibitions Mean Business’ 2nd Annual Exhibitions Day, held June 9 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., brought together 112 participants from 19 states to participate in industry-related events, including nearly 100 meetings with policy influencers and members of Congress. The meetings focused on key issues that could affect the more than $71 billion contribution the trade show industry has to the GDP. Hospitality design is booming, with the Emerald Expositions’ HD Expo, held May 13-15 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, drawing a record crowd and exhibitors. There were 10,260 registered attendees at the show, which is produced by Hospitality Design magazine, marking a 10-percent increase from last year. The HUB, billed as Asia's leading fashion trade show, is moving Oct. 13-15 to Shanghai, during the same time period as Shanghai Fashion Week. The sold-out inaugural edition of CES Asia drew more than 200 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions to the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre (SNIEC). The three-day show ran May 25-27, occupying more than 20,000 square meters of gross exhibition space. CES Asia reportedly welcomed more than 20,000 attendees, which included more than 1,200 members of the press. Around 40 percent of the showfloor was represented by exhibitors headquartered outside of mainland China. The show’s organisers expect to release officially audited numbers within six weeks. In April, China’s State Council released an official directive with the aim of boosting the development of the country’s exhibition industry. According to the lengthy guidelines, a ministerial joint conference, including multiple central government departments, will be established to coordinate the formulation and implementation of new market rules.
