The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has appointed Carolyn Johnson as its Director of Marketing and Communications, effective from 9th July 2018. Previously, Johnson was Head of Marketing of Hostplus. She has also held senior marketing positions at various premium brands in Australia. The board of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) announced this week that its long-serving CEO, Martin Sirk, will step down from his position at the end of this month. Sirk, who joined ICCA as CEO in 2002, has led the association through substantial growth overseeing a rise in membership from 600 to over 1,100 companies and organisations across 97 countries. Recently, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) published its annual report for the financial year ended 31st March 2018. Revenues generated from the HKTDC’s exhibitions and missions were US$250 million, slightly higher than last year’s figure. The HKTDC’s total revenues, including a government subvention of US$49 million, were US$360 million – also similar to the previous year’s numbers. Revenues from the HKTDC’s magazines and online marketplace dropped 3.7% compared with the previous year, down to US$20 million. The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) welcomes the expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), making this venue Australia’s largest convention and exhibition space. Acting Premier the Hon. James Merlino MP and Minister for Tourism and Major Events, The Hon. John Eren MP announced the opening of MCEC’s new event space July 8. After being granted a Saudi investment license by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) earlier this year, dmg events has established a new office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia designed to serve as a base for the company’s events throughout the Kingdom.
