Following an insightful session on leadership at IMEX, I was surprised to see a woman in a white doctor’s coat enter the room. “Everyone, stand up!” she said. Organised by the Shanghai Sinoexpo Informa Markets International Exhibition Company, the 25th edition of Furniture China – the China International Furniture Expo attracted over 170,000 attendees from 160 countries and regions. Among the attendees, a total of more than 21,000 were from overseas. In the face of ongoing protests in Hong Kong, B2B media company, Global Sources, opened its Mobile Electronics trade show at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) on 18th October. Featuring more than 3,700 booths, the show ran until 21st October. Products showcased at the show included charging products, mobile speakers and earphones, wearable electronics, smartphones and tablets, protective cases and repair tools, accessories and services. The 7th edition of the Shenzhen International Game Show in 2020 will move to Shenzhen’s new mega venue, Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center. Meorient, a Chinese exhibition organiser, has listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE). The company debuted on the exchange on 22nd October. Meorient’s stock code is 300795. The company is reportedly the first exhibition organiser in China to be listed on a major stock exchange. According to the SZSE, Meorient’s IPO offered just over 25 million shares at RMB 14.27 (US$2.02) per share and raising funds of RMB 357 million (US$51 million). XPO Exhibitions, a trade show organizer in New Zealand, announced that the company has acquired nine shows from North Port Events. No financial details were released. The nine shows are The Baby Shows, The Food Shows (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch), Fine Food New Zealand, Facilities Integrate, The Waikato Home & Garden Show, Autumn HomeXPO. After the acquisition, XPO will organise a portfolio of 18 shows in 2020 and the company is expecting more than 3,500 exhibiting companies and over 150,000 visitors at its events next year.
