Byun Named President, CEO of Seoul's Coex Convention and Exhibition Center

April 6, 2013

The Coex Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul has named Bo Kyung Byun as its new president and CEO, taking over for three-year predecessor Sung Won Hong .

The leadership transition was effective as of March 28.

Byun has extensive experience heading several of Korea’s top information and technology corporations, including LG-IBM PC and KOLON Global.

Since 2011, Byun has contributed substantially to Korea’s global convention and exhibition industry and international relations through his role as CEO and president of the Seoul Business Agency, one of Korea’s leading organizations offering growth support to small and medium sized domestic businesses.

Coex officials said Byun’s knowledge of these fields is “anticipated to facilitate the further development of Coex as a national and international events hub for global commerce and trade.”

The changeover was finalized after a process involving public media implemented to ensure the fair and transparent recruitment of all members of Coex staff. Byun was selected from a pool of almost 60 candidates.

Byun said that as CEO, he hopes to both raise the international profile of Coex, as well as heightening the center’s sense of social responsibility and support of local industries.

Byun takes over during a busy time for the center, with the largest ever record of international events held at the center on tap this year,  including the UFI Congress in the fall

In addition, a massive planned redevelopment of the center’s underground shopping mall - already Asia’s largest – recently has begun.

Coex is Korea’s busiest convention and exhibition center and hosts more than 2,000 events annually.
