A new report commissioned by the Professional Convention Management Association’s Education Foundation takes a look into meetings, events and conventions from the perspective of the Millennial generation to identify key motivations and challenges in engaging this emerging audience. “What the Millennial Generation Prefers in Their Meetings, Conventions and Events” reportis based on the findings of the largest survey conducted of its kind, according to PCMA officials. In this difficult financial climate, it can be a good thing to be a trade show representing an industry comprised of multiple market segments, especially when some of them are growing at a very rapid pace. Case in point is InfoComm International, the largest annual exhibition and conference for the professional audiovisual and information communications industries, held June 13-15 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. A task force comprised of snow sports industry representatives recently met in Denver to discuss and approve plans for a new trade show entitled Sourcing Snow. The new event is member-owned by the textile and material suppliersand will be collocated with the 2013 SIA Snow Showon tap Jan. 30-Feb. 1 at the Colorado Convention Center’s Mile High Ballroom. EMECA, the European Major Exhibition Centres Association, and UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, have signed an agreement to create the European Exhibition Industry Alliance.  This new alliance will bring together Europe’s leading exhibition associations in a coordinated effort to promote awareness of the vital contribution that the exhibition industry plays to economic development and job creation, according to UFI officials. Consumer Electronic Association’s 2012 International CES was the biggest of the big, with records being broken in number of exhibitors, overall attendees and international attendees, according to an independent audit. There were a record-breaking 3,319 exhibitors that showed off their technologies at the 2012 International CES event, a 22-percent increase, compared with last year’s show. The Center for Exhibition Industry Research will hold its 2nd Annual Predict Conference Sept. 13 in New York City at the Time Warner Center. The International Association of Exhibitions and Events Public Events Council released its “Public Events Industry 2011” survey report and “Supplemental Report: How the Public Event/Consumer Show Engages with the Younger Generations/Professionals.” In 2009, the Public Events Council distributed a survey to public event organizers across 22 public events industry sectors to examine overall industry performance.
