Trade Show News Network is pleased to announce the release of the 2011 TSNN Top 50 Canadian Trade Shows list of rankings.

Snagging the No. 1 spot once again was Regina Exhibition Association’s Western Canada Farm Progress Show, with a massive 1,215,550 net square foot showfloor.

The show also drew 751 exhibitors and more than 43,000 attendees to Evraz Place in Regina, Saskatchewan.

“We are pleased to be recognized by Trade Show News Network as Canada’s No.1 on the Top 50 Trade Show list,” said Rob O’Connor, the show’s manager.

He added, “Canada’s Farm Progress Show has experienced a wonderful growth trend during the past decade. The new facilities at Evraz Place have provided a new atmosphere to the indoor portion of the event and it seems to continue attract new exhibitors and new attendees from around the world.”

The No. 2nd- and No. 3rd-ranked shows, the semiannual CGTA Toronto Gift Shows, both are run by the Canadian Gift & Tableware Association and were held at the International Centre in Toronto and the Toronto Congress Centre.

The two shows moved up one spot each on the list, compared with 2010, with the August show last year drawing 958 exhibitors and more than 12,000 attendees to a 431,252 net sq. ft. showfloor, and the January show attracted 912 exhibitors and more than 15,000 attendees to a 412,914 net sq. ft. showfloor.

“The Toronto Gift Show has had the great fortune to represent the best of the best in terms of the quality of its exhibitors and retail attendees, and the relevant, trendy gift product from across North America which is on display,” said Karen Bassels, vice president Toronto CGTA Gift Shows.

She added, “Not only does it offer a unique opportunity for quality business trade, but it also allows buyers to experience new and trendy products – and advice – in a professional one-stop-shopping market which continues to strongly support the Canadian gift industry.”

Toronto snagged the most shows on the 2011 TSNN Canadian 50 Trade Show list with 21, followed by Montreal, with 12 shows, and Vancouver, with 4 shows.

"In polls and rankings like this, it speaks volumes when our customers voice their choice of city and venue,” said David Whitaker, president and CEO of Tourism Toronto.

He added, “At the end of the day, these choices are about maximizing the success of the show and attendee experience and a testament to Toronto's track record.”

The busiest months last year on the TSNN Top 50 Canadian Trade Shows list also were two of the colder ones – November, with nine shows and January – with eight shows, followed by one of the hottest – August – with six shows.

The quietest months last year for trade shows in Canada were July and December, with no shows at all on the list.
