The 2011 National District Export Council Conference & Exposition might be small, especially by Las Vegas standards, but the power it yields for exports worldwide is big. Global Experience Specialist’s parent company, Viad, recently released its third-quarter earnings, and while numbers for the Marketing & Events Group, of which GES is a part of, were down because of negative show rotation, base same-show numbers scored a nearly 11-percent increase, compared with last year’s Q3 numbers.  Viad’s overall revenues saw a 1-percent increase in the third quarter to $216.2 million, compared with the same period last year, as well as $1.2 million in net income. Although you might think that a trade show dedicated to gambling wouldn’t be a very optimistic place to be these days, participants at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) appeared to have something to smile about. Held Oct. 4-6 in its new home at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, the world’s largest trade show and conference for the gaming entertainment industry attracted nearly 26,000 attendees and 440 exhibitors spanning 250,000 square feet of exhibit space. U.K.-based Tarsus Group sold its 51-percent stake in its French joint venture ModAmont SAS to joint venture partner Premiere Vision SAS for €6.1 million ($8.04 million). ModAmont takes place biannually in February and September in Paris and is the leading exhibition for fashion accessories in France. “The disposal of ModAmont will materially reduce our exposure to the lower growth European market and less than 10 percent of Group profits will now be generated from France. New Hope Natural Media’s Natural Products Expo East saw significant growth with a move back to its long-time home this year at the Baltimore Convention Center. The 2011 show, held Sept. 21-24, drew more than 20,000 attendees to a 150,000 net square foot showfloor with 1,500 exhibits, compared with a similar number of attendees, but a smaller 137,000 net sq. ft. showfloor with 1,300 exhibits at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center last year. The United States Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo will be held for the first time outside of the U.S. in Toronto. The show, on tap Oct. 4-7 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, includes programming, workshops and an exhibition floor that provides attendees an “unrivaled opportunity to learn about the latest technological innovations, explore new products and network with other professionals,” according to MTCC officials. Despite the fact Libyan revolutionary forces still are in the grips of trying to completely take back the country and remove its long-time leader, Moammar Gadhafi, U.K.-based Montgomery Worldwide has monitored developments and decided to reenter the trade show market with two events through its Montgomery Libya Ltd.
