The pace of growth may be slowing, but the trade show industry still just keeps moving in a positive direction, with the Center for Exhibition Industry Research’s Index showing a 1.3-percent increase to kick off the first quarter of this year, compared with the same time period last year. Even though it’s the eleventh straight quarter with an uptick, the year started out lagging behind the overall GDP, which saw 1.8 percent growth, compared with Q1 2012. Cathy Griffith has been promoted to operations director for Nielsen Expositions, replacing Cindy Sample, who now runs the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Show. Reed Huaqun Exhibitions Co., Ltd. and ShanghaiMart have reached an agreement to develop the Shanghai International Gift & Home Trade Fair, formerly produced by ShanghaiMart, into the Shanghai International Houseware, Premium, Arts & Crafts Creative Design Exhibition, organized by Reed Huaqun. The Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology exhibition, on tap June 9-12 at the Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, will span 20,000 square meters, a 33-percent increase, compared with last year’s event. The two main themes of the show, run by Germany-based Messe Frankfurt, are Electrical Engineering and Building Automation. Last week, Infrastructure NSW (INSW) announced it has terminated negotiations with the winning bidder to build temporary exhibition facilities at Sydney’s Glebe Island. This week INSW stressed it will provide temporary exhibition facilities at Glebe Island on schedule in time for the 2014 exhibition season. The 2013 edition of the Asia Adult Expo (AEE) will expand into an additional hall at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) this summer due to the increased demand. Organised by Hong Kong-based exhibition organiser, Vertical Expo, the adult products and services show will run from 29th to 31st August.
