It’s been a roller coaster ride over at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia and, with the local Carpenters’ union striking twice in the past year - most recently in the middle of a show last week - venue officials drew a line in the sand and issued an ultimatum to all six unions working in the center. The Association of Korean Exhibition Industry (AKEI) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). The signing ceremony was held at the Landmark Hotel Bangkok attended by Yang-whan Jeong (vice-chairman of AKEI), Sang-kon Kim (deputy director of MOTIE), Nopparat Maythaveekulchai (president of TCEB), Patrapee Chinachoti (president of TEA) and executives and members of TEA in Bangkok. The HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair, billed as the largest fair of its kind in the world, and the Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair closed their four-day shows at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and AsiaWorld-Expo, respectively, with more than 65,000 total buyers. The buyers came from 151 countries and regions, with overseas buyers up by six percent, compared with last year. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions has sold out the Asian Attractions Expo 2014 that spans more than 91,439 net square feet (8,500 net square meters), setting a new record for exhibit space at the event. More than 5,000 attendees are expected to participate, which will take place June 17-20 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Medical World Americas, a unique collaboration between the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), Germany-based Messe Duesseldorf, the Texas Medical Center and Houston First Corp., debuted this week at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Live Mint& The Wall Street Journal reported this week that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) fined the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) US$1.1 million for “abuse of a dominant position.” ITPO is an Indian government trade promotion agency, which among other activities organises exhibitions and owns and operates some key venues in India, including Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Reed Panorama Exhibitions (RPE), Reed Exhibitions’ Indonesian joint venture subsidiary, will launch three new events and expand the existing Mega Build Indonesia this year. The three new launches include the Indonesia Transport Supply Chain and Logistics and Mining & Engineering Indonesia, which will both take place from 29th to 31st October 2014 at the Jakarta International Expo.
