Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Hosts 116 Exhibitions in FY2011/12

September 9, 2012

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre continues to be one of the busiest venues in the region, hosting 1,224 events, 116 of which were exhibitions held by 52 organizers in FY 2011/12.

Of these organizers, 28 were from outside Hong Kong: 17 were international companies with local representative offices, 10 were overseas organizers and one was from Mainland China.

Nearly all of the exhibitions held in the FY2011/12 were recurrent events.

Nine of the year’s 116 exhibitions werefirst-time events at the HKCEC, all new ventures by different organizers.  Furthermore, of these nine organizers, eight were new to the HKCEC.

Exhibitions coming to HKCEC in FY2011/12 posted healthy numbers, with 35 of the recurrent exhibitions recording double-digit growth in terms of gross exhibition space, compared with their previous editions.

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (“HML”) is the professional private management company responsible for the venue management and daily operation of the HKCEC.

“We take pride in attracting event organizers from around the world to Hong Kong,” said Monica Lee-Müller, managing director of HML.

She added, “Their presence reaffirms that HML’s level of service delivery matches the highest international standards. The diversity of our event and client portfolio underscores the HKCEC’s position as a preferred venue for event organizers, and Hong Kong’s position as the Trade Fair Capital of Asia.”

Lee- Müller said that 99 percent of organizers brining shows to the HKCEC rated the service they received ‘satisfactory’ or better.

“This is a gratifying achievement given the vast range of events held at the HKCEC,” she added. “The challenge of servicing so many different organizers with such a wide range of different needs raises our team’s quality of service and motivates us to set the bar even higher. “

Other than exhibitions, the HKCEC also was home to conferences, corporate meetings, banquets and entertainment events.

In total, 1,224 events held at the HKCEC in FY2011/12 attracted more than 5.6 million visitors to the venue.

“Over its 24 years of operation, the HML team has hosted 40,830 events and has served over 75 million buyers, exhibitors, visitors and guests,” Lee-Müller said.

She added, “These events have contributed significant economic benefits to Hong Kong by generating spin-offs for related industries, creating numerous jobs and business opportunities for small and medium enterprises and enhancing Hong Kong’s international image and reputation.”
