REHACARE 2014 Closes to Slight Visitor Increase

October 28, 2014

The recent staging of REHACARE 2014, International Trade Fair and Congress “Self-determined Living”, closed in Düsseldorf, Germany to positive results.

A total of 51,250 trade visitors, people affected and their families came to gather information about innovative assistive technologies presented by 902 exhibitors from 36 countries.

This marks a slight visitor increase, compared with the staging in 2012, the closest year in attendee patterns.

According to a survey, 96 percent of the REHACARE 2014 attendees were pleased with the trade fair and its product ranges.

“Ageing societies, rising life expectancy and the associated nursing care problems, but also the increasing demands of people affected and the elderly on autonomy and participation are the key innovation drivers for the rehabilitation and nursing care industry,” said Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf.

He added, “Exhibitors from both Germany and abroad presented a wealth of innovations and further developments especially in the field of mobility. Both people affected and experts want to benefit from these.”

Dr. Martin Danner, managing director of the Federal Working Group for Self-Help (BAG SELBSTHILFE), spoke positively about the the diversity of the trade fair:

“REHACARE is a must for all those seeking an overview of the aids available for people with impairments today,” he added. “Here, everything is offered from everyday aids to highly individualized high-tech products for just about every disability.”

People affected also appreciate REHACARE as an information platform explaining the policy framework for the disabled. “Our information events on the imminent reforms of the nursing care insurance and the German Participation Act were very well attended,” Dr. Danner said.

About 8,100 trade visitors from the sales and import sector traveled to REHACARE 2014 from abroad. Coming from more than 40 countries, these attendees are essential especially for an export-oriented industry such as the AT sector.

The majority of the REHACARE 2014 visitors were interested in mobility such as vehicles and wheelchairs. About 20 percent came for products and information about “Barrier-Free Building and Living”.

The REHACARE Congress 2014 with the topic “District Development - ALL in the Midst of Things” dealt with the development of districts, neighborhoods and communities into sustainable living environments suitable for old-age requirements. Four hundred congress delegates from urban planning and regional policy participated in the seven lecture series and 50 individual talks.
