Live Mint& The Wall Street Journal reported this week that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) fined the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) US$1.1 million for “abuse of a dominant position.” ITPO is an Indian government trade promotion agency, which among other activities organises exhibitions and owns and operates some key venues in India, including Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Reed Panorama Exhibitions (RPE), Reed Exhibitions’ Indonesian joint venture subsidiary, will launch three new events and expand the existing Mega Build Indonesia this year. The three new launches include the Indonesia Transport Supply Chain and Logistics and Mining & Engineering Indonesia, which will both take place from 29th to 31st October 2014 at the Jakarta International Expo. The third event will be the trade and public exhibition Indonesia Toys, Games & Comic Convention (ITGCC). The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) concluded its Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong International Home Textiles & Furnishings Fair earlier this week, with a total of 2,300 exhibitors and 46,000 buyers attending. The concurrent events were held April 20-23at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Coverings, the trade show for tile and natural stone, boasted the largest showfloor since 2008. “We’re up about 12 percent compared to 340,000 square feet last year,” said Karin Fendrich, Coverings' show director. “It’s representative of what’s happening in the industry and the fact that opportunities are coming back.” Attendance was at about 20,000, slightly up, compared with last year. Germany-based Messe Frankfurt will launch the 14th event in their worldwide Automechanika series in partnership with Calif.-based Advanstar Communications next year in Chicago. The new show, Automechanika Chicago, will be held April 24-26 at Chicago’s McCormick Place and serve a steadily growing U.S. automotive aftermarket. For the second time in a year and right in the middle of the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting, being held April 25-May 3 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, the Carpenters’ union that works at the facility went on strike.
