International exhibition organiser, ITE Group plc, has expanded its operations in Southeast Asia with the acquisition of a 50% stake in Indonesia-based organiser, PT Debindo Unggul Buana Makmur(DUBM), for an undisclosed amount. The completion of the acquisition is subject to the approval of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board – BKPM. Exhibition specialist brokers, Mayfield Media Strategies, represented DUBM in the deal.

TheHong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre was the venue for 76 events in May, ranging from major international conferences, exhibitions and concerts to corporate annual dinners, wedding banquets and seminars, which together drew a total of 428,000 visitors from all over the world.
Even though Hong Kong’s provisional statistics of Hong Kong’s retail sales for April were reported to have dropped about 10 percent, compared with the previous year, no related trends could be discerned from the international conferences and exhibitions held at the HKCEC.

HITEC 2014, a hospitality technology show, officially has kicked off, running June 23–26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and the show already is off to a great start.
“We have grown again from last year, both in number of exhibitors and show square footage, at nearly a 12 percent increase from 2013,” said Steven Stout, CAE, director of Meetings and Special Events, Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals, which runs the show.

Organised by the GSM Association (GSMA), the 3rd edition of Mobile Asia Expo reportedly attracted more than 26,000 unique visitors from 93 countries and regions over three halls at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre (SNIEC). GSMA defines unique visitors as individual attendees at the event, including delegates, exhibitors, contractors and media.

UBM Asia, a subsidiary of UBM plc, will launch a new trade show, Mineral & Gem Asia, next year. Supported by The Munich Show, the inaugural edition of Mineral & Gem Asia will run from 27th to 30th June at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) in Hong Kong.
Exhibitor products at the four-day show will cover a range of rough and polished gemstones, fossils, decorative and ancient stones, art pieces and various mineral products. Last week, Pico Thailand, the Thai-listed subsidiary of Pico Far East Holdings, announced its results for the quarter ended 30th April 2014. Revenues in the quarter were US$6.6million,down 15% compared with the same quarter last year. The company recorded a net loss of US$94,000 in the quarter, compared with a net profit of US$406,000 in 2013.
Pico Thailand’s management attributed the decrease in revenue to declining income from its event marketing business and a drop in government projects - as well as the delay of some projects due to political uncertainty in Thailand.

The Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association released its list of the top 50 largest U.S. medical meetings held in 2013
The FIME Show, a medical tradeshow based out of Miami, took the top spot with a total reported attendance of 57,000.
In the previous four years, the top spot has been held by either Greater New York Dental Meeting or the Radiological Society of North America, who respectively ranked two (54,629) and three (54,008).
