One-time Date Change for ISPO BEIJING in 2015 Moves Show Closer to Outdoor Retailer Winter Market

April 6, 2014

Messe München International is moving ISPO BEIJING to a time slot one month earlier than usual in 2015, pushing it closer to Salt Lake City, Utah-based Outdoor Retailer Winter Market.

ISPO BEIJING now will be held Jan. 28-31 at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing, and Outdoor Retailer is on tap Jan. 20-24.

This one-time change for the Beijeing-based show was necessary because of the Chinese New Year, which is celebrated during the usual date range for ISPO BEIJING.

In 2015, the Chinese New Year celebrations start Feb. 19 and traditionally last for 15 days, which would overlap the usual February date for ISPO BEIJING.

Moving the trade show forward was essential, according to show organizers. Postponing the event after the Chinese New Year to mid-March was not an option due to the order cycles in the sports business.

Klaus Dittrich, chairman of the Management of Messe München International, said, “Changing the date for a trade show presents the organizers with the challenge of finding a compromise within the international (trade show) calendar taking into account the wishes of our industry partners.”

He added, “Therefore, we contacted our customers early on to jointly discuss and find the best possible date under consideration of all aspects.”

Besides being held just a short time after the U.S.-based Outdoor Retailer Winter Market next year, ISP BEIJING will for the first time also be held before ISPO MUNICH, scheduled Feb. 5-8 at Messe München.

Last year’s ISPO BEIJING broke records, drawing 27,800 attendees to see 567 brands on more than 400,000 square feet of space.

Outdoor Retailer Winter Market last year drew nearly 20,000 attendees to see 881 exhibitors on a more than 400,000 net sq. ft. showfloor at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
