U.S. Export Conference and Expo Set to Open in Las Vegas

October 29, 2011

The 2011 National District Export Council Conference & Exposition might be small, especially by Las Vegas standards, but the power it yields for exports worldwide is big.

The show, hosted by the Nevada DEC Nov. 2-5 at Caesars Palace, is North America’s largest conference and trade show solely dedicated to exporting U.S. goods and services.

The conference and expo will host more than 400 attendees involved in global trade, including high-level U.S. government agencies, such as the U.S. Commercial Services that certifies trade shows to be a part of the International Buyer Program.

“Las Vegas is proud to host and sponsor the District Export Council Conference & Expo in 2011,” said Chris Meyer, vice President of sales for the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.

He added, “Las Vegas hosts some of the largest international trade shows in the world, each of which provides a tremendous amount of exported business.  We are eager to show the DEC why Las Vegas is the right choice for their show.”

There also will be 50 booths on the showfloor representing companies involved in global trade.

Keynote presentations include David Abney, the president of the Thunderbird School of International Management Angel Cabrera and the COO of UPS.

"UPS is proud to support the National District Export Conference in Las Vegas and I look forward to speaking at Friday’s luncheon,” Abney said.

Abney oversees the pick-up and delivery of 15.8 million packages and documents daily to a service area that includes every address in the U.S., as well as to more than 200 countries and territories.

Other sponsors include FedEx, in its seventh year of sponsoring the conference, COMERICA, VISA and the U.S. Census.

The theme of the conference is “Exporting Increases Sales, it’s in the cards” and it will be commemorating the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce with special events.

Conference attendees will be able to attend Export University, a certificate program designed with three sessions to fit all levels of exporting experience with materials presented by the foremost authorities from the public and private sectors.

There also will be 12 educational tracks running simultaneously during the event that will focus on finding markets, how to price and package products and services, getting export financing, shipping products, international law, the new information on Free Trade Agreements and INCOTERMS.

In addition, besides the U.S. Commercial Service being on hand, 25 international Consuls will be available to aid in building an export strategy for U.S.-based manufacturers of goods and services.

Confirmed are Japan, China, Korea, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Indonesia, Ireland, Uruguay, Poland, the U.K., France, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Switzerland.
