When officials representing the San Diego Chargers NFL football team went before the California Coastal Commission late last week and proposed a joint-use, stadium-convention center project in downtown San Diego’s East Village, they likely thought it was the perfect solution to much-needed additional convention space in the area.

By all indications, meetings organized by global trade associations continue to see positive growth, according to 92 respondents who took part in theInternational Congress and Convention Association’s and IMEX Group’s latest survey.
Seventy-seven percent of the respondents who took part in the joint annual survey, conducted during the IMEX event’s Association Day in Frankfurt, Germany, organize meetings with more than 500 attendees and 17 percent organize meetings with 5,000-plus attendees.

U.K.-based Daily Mail and General Trust, owner of dmg :: events, recently made several executive changes, including promoting Geoff Dickinson to CEO, as well as Simon Mellor to senior vice president for the Middle East and Asia and Galen Poss to vice chairman.
Suresh Kavan, who held both CEO and chairman titles of dmge, now will shift into a chairman role, but maintain his CEO position for dmg information.
The new appointments were announced at DMGT’s Investor Day presentation in London and will be effective beginning Oct. 1.

Several international trade show organizers have placed their bets on launching shows in Myanmar, formerly Burma, as the newest place to expand their portfolios.
U.K.-based ITE Group recently announced they would be launching another show in the country, Myanmar Oil and Gas Week, along with partner company VEAS.
The show will be held Feb. 25-26 in Yangon.

Working around trade shows and events, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has completed a $20 million renovation of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The 54-year-old facility now sports a few façade, better parking, updated interior and an improved experience for attendees and exhibitors.
