Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Hosts 100,000 Art Lovers

June 6, 2011

More than 100,000 art and antique lovers, collectors and professionals from across Asia, Europe and the United States congregated at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) for two events - ART HK – Hong Kong International Art Fair and Christie’s Hong Kong Spring Auctions.

This year’s ART HK, held May 26-29, expanded by almost 40 percent, compared with 2010, and presented a record-breaking 260 galleries from 38 countries.

Thousands of visitors and buyers visited the HKCEC to see an array of works by approximately 1,000 artists - ranging from modern masters to young talents.

Christie’s Hong Kong Spring Auctions, held May 27–June 1, also was at the HKCEC.

The auctions featured a variety of high-end items - from classical Chinese paintings and works of art, to cutting-edge contemporary works from artists throughout Asia, as well as fine wine, magnificent jewelry and watches.

“HML is proud that the HKCEC is the top choice of the two organizers for hosting the most important regional art events,” Monica Lee-Müller, deputy managing director of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Management Ltd (HML). ”The entire HML team, from event planning and coordination, security, housekeeping to food and beverage departments, have geared to serve the sophisticated exhibitors and visitors during the eight days.”

She added, “Our efforts paid off when we saw the fruitful results of the two events.”

Both events attracted sophisticated patrons, so the HML team food and beverage team rolled out the red carpet to offer a high-end gastronomic experience, according to HKCEC officials.

During the Vernissage (preview day) My 25, 2,080 bottles of champagne and wine were served within four hours.

In the subsequent four days of exhibitions, exclusive locations were turned into contemporary dining area, cafes and lounges, offering specialty dishes, cakes, teas, cheeses, chocolates and wine sourced from distinguished brand name suppliers. The show even had a sommelier on hand, according to HKCEC officials.

To further the high-end ambience, the organizers also commissioned interior designers to create an artistic ambience that matched the exhibition theme.
