HKTDC International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show Draws Record Number of Exhibitors

March 10, 2015

The second edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show was held recently at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) with a record number of exhibitors, three new group pavilions and a debut zone dedicated to precious pearls.

The fair, which ran March 2-6, previously was part of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, which ran March 4-8 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"Building on the success of the inaugural 'two shows, two venues' format introduced last year, this Show returns with another dazzling array of precious stones, pearls and raw materials here at the AsiaWorld-Expo," said Benedict Sin, Jewellery Advisory Committee Chairman of event organiser the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

The Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show featured 20 group pavilions, including new pavilions from Australia, Colombia and Pakistan.

Returning to the event this year were five trade pavilions: Antwerp World Diamond Centre, International Colored Gemstone Association, Japan Pearl Exporters' Association, Israel Diamond Institute and New York Diamond Dealers Club.

New to the show this year was the Treasures of Ocean zone showcasing exquisite pearls. The Hall of Fine Diamonds returns with more than 50 exhibitors showcasing fine carat-size diamonds, while the Treasures of Nature zone is dedicated to rare precious stones.

Buyer forums, networking events and seminars were held throughout the fair period. They includes "Buyer Forum: The Latest Development and Opportunities in the Emerging Market and the Chinese Mainland Jewellery Industries", a seminar on "Progress in Diamond Treatments, Synthetics and the Challenges in Identification" and "A Year in the Field through the Lens of a Gemologist."

During the opening day of the event, the HKTDC and the Ministry of Commerce, The Republic of the Union of Myanmar signed a Cooperation Agreement.

The accord promotes bilateral trade cooperation and facilitates the Ministry of Commerce to bring exhibitors from Myanmar to selected HKTDC fairs to promote their products to the international market.

More than 1,800 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions took part in the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show.

In 2014, the value of Hong Kong exports of pearls, precious & semi-precious stones amounted to US$16.6 billion, an 11.9 percent increase, compared with the previous year.
