Healthcare Information Management Systems Society 2012 Annual Meeting Break Attendance Records
When the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society recently wrapped up its annual meeting Feb. 20-24 at the Sand Expo & Convention Center, show officials had a lot to celebrate, with the show breaking previous attendance records.
HIMSS12 reached 37,032 attendees, surpassing the HIMSS11 attendance figure of 31,500 attendees.
The four-day event featured sessions on stage 1 and stage 2, as well as events and happenings such as ICD-10, mobile health and mHIMSS.
HIMSS12 also included HIT X.0 and Leading from the Future, two conferences within a conference that were introduced last year.
In addition, Virtual HIMSS12 provided health IT professionals unable to travel to the conference access to the keynote and other educational sessions.
Some of the keynote presentations at the conference included Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter; Farzad Mostashari, MD, ScM, national coordinator for Health Information Technology, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Terry Moran, “NIGHTLINE” Anchor: Donna Brazile, political strategist and commentator vice chair of Voter Registration and Participation, Democratic National Committee; Dana Perino, political commentator and former White House Press Secretary; and Dan Buettner, founder of Blue Zones and world-renowned explorer.
Besides the stellar attendance, busy showfloor and educations sessions, HIMSS12 also had a “ground-breaking emphasis on social media during the conference this year,” according to show officials.
The show set the world record for healthcare conferences inTweet Volume: the #HIMSS12 hashtag was tweeted a total of 6,438 times in one day and 29,335 the week of conference.
Next year’s HIMSS13 will be held March 3-7 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
