October 10, 2011

The biennial FoodHotelVietnam2011, organized by Singapore Exhibition Services and co-organized by VCCI Exhibition Service Co Ltd., scored a 26-percent attendance increase, compared with the 2009 show, during its Sept. 26-28 event at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

There were a total of 12,075 attendees, which included trade visitors, exhibiting staff, competition judges and participants and members of the media. Of that total, 9.860 were trade visitors.

Besides higher attendance, the show also saw more exhibitors on the showfloor, with 373, 74 percent of which were from overseas, representing 30 countries and regions.

Key local and international exhibitors included Annam Fine Food Company, Anh Duong Equipment (Sunshine Equipment Company), Duc Minh Hotel Supply, Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam, Ocean Glass, Q Industries and many more.

In addition, there were a total of 15 international group pavilions, 66 percent more than the 2009 edition.

There also were nearly 100 group delegations from leading enterprises in Vietnam that came to the show, compared with 51 groups in 2009.

Some of these groups included Ho Chi Minh City’s largest convenience store operator, Shop & Go JSC; Starcity Saigon Hotel; Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers; Victoria Can Tho Resort; Saigontourist Holding Company, and Ho Chi Minh City’s only airline caterer, Vietnam Air Caterers.

Exhibitors were impressed with the show and gave it good reviews.

“This is the second time that we are exhibiting at FoodHotelVietnam as the results from the last edition were very positive,” said Dominik Goerts, head of TGM HoReCa of Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam.

He added, “This year, it is just as positive as all our expectations were met, and we’ve managed to make a great number of contacts over the three days, with quality suppliers and customers. The show was organized very professionally.”

Besides the exhibits, there also were competitions staged at the show, including the second Vietnam Barista Competition and fourth Vietnam Culinary Challenge.

The Vietnam Barista Competition had 17 participants battle during three days for the title of Vietnam’s best barista.

The Vietnam Culinary Challenge saw more than 80 chefs displaying their skills and creativity to compete during the three-day show.

Held for the first time, the Vietnam’s Best Sommelier Competition also saw six of Vietnam’s sommeliers battle for the top spot.

The next edition of FoodHotelVietnam will be held Sept. 25-27, 2013, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center.
