Boston Strong: Pushing Hard, Despite Challenges

February 4, 2019

By Douglas Emslie, Tarsus Group Managing Director

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me for the Boston Marathon. I really appreciate it, and it will go a long way to help the charity achieve its goals this year.

For the first time, I’ve got corporate sponsors and a huge thank you to them - details of my various supporters are below - you have gone above and beyond. Finally, a big thank you to Rachel, Brian and Jeffery for their Herculean efforts on the fundraising - a fantastic team effort.

Training in January hasn’t quite gone to plan. I’ve picked up a hip injury - abductor tendonitis - which has forced me to reduce my volume. Weekly Physio is helping but it’s unlikely to clear up quickly - the problems of old age ( seemingly an old runner is anyone over 40!). On the positive side, I’ve run 2 half marathons in the last month.

On my way to CES I ran in Long Beach California and achieve my first ever win - there were only 20 runners! Thoughts of retiring on a high were shelved after I returned to my normal position of 531 in the Farnborough race, although I was pleased to have done a PB. While the Dubai Airshow is way ahead of Farnborough I have to confess that I do prefer running in 2 degrees rather than 40.

I’ve no races planned for February but will be focused on upping the miles and trying to get over the hip injury. I’m currently on route to Monterrey Mexico where I will do some warm weather training with Jose Navarro (Pepe). We are running the Chicago marathon together in October and I always find this trip a great calibrator for where I am with my training.

Thank you again for all your support. Links to the charity are below.
