Orange County Convention Center First to Offer Interactive Online Map with Space Selection, Planning Technology

May 16, 2017

The Orange County Convention Center has launched atlas3D’s MapSpacer technology for meeting space exploration, selection and event planning for complimentary use on its website.

By being the first convention center in the world to offer this cutting-edge technology, the OCCC has opened the door for show organizers, attendees and exhibitors to harness a more convenient, dynamic and streamlined way to explore the Orlando-based convention center’s facilities, grounds, surroundings, and myriad meeting and break-out spaces.

Think of it as an interactive virtual site visit, from any device, anywhere across the globe.

Created by concept3D, creator of location-based software and 3D services, the new online tool includes MapSpacer, a space selection and event planning application that works in tandem with the atlas3D interactive mapping platform’s detailed 3D models and floorplans.

“atlas3D and MapSpacer created a game-changer for how planning takes place in this industry, and it’s incredibly exciting to be the first convention center in the world to offer MapSpacer,” said Kathie Canning, OCCC executive director.

She continued, “atlas3D’s interactive map and panoramic, VR-ready virtual tours beautifully profile all that OCCC has to offer and the platform is ideal for marketing our space as well as for promoting the many on and offsite hotels, attractions and partners that further improve the attendee experience.”

Event planners and convention center staff now are able to use MapSpacer to shortlist meeting spaces that meet their specific criteria as well as explore those spaces through VR-enabled photospheres, images and 3D models, all without having to physically set foot in the venue.

MapSpacer’s design tool includes a SketchUp extension that gives planners and convention center staff the ability to custom design meeting spaces, while pulling from a convention center’s specific inventory of key event necessities including tables, chairs and equipment.

The plans can be viewed in 2D or 3D fly-through models, modified as needed and then submitted to convention center staff for cost proposals.

“We set out to create a new industry standard for meeting space selection and event planning, and having OCCC be the first to launch MapSpacer validates that goal,” said concept3D CEO Gordon Boyes.

He added, “The atlas3D and MapSpacer combination creates an ideal solution for convention centers, and we’re confident the technology will create new business for our clients and keep attendees and event planners coming back again and again.”
