Consortium Named for Sydney MICE Area Bid
The New South Wales (NSW) Government has shortlisted three separate consortia for the contract bid to build the new 120,000 square metre Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (SICEEP) at Darling Harbour. The bidding consortia will reportedly include Australian and international players with backgrounds ranging from construction to event management.
The three consortia named are:
1) ‘Destination Sydney’ – made up of AEG Ogden, Lend Lease Project Management and Construction, Spotless Facility Services, Lend Lease Developments, Capella Capital and InfraRed Capital Partners.
2) ‘Key Partners’ – LaingO’Rourke Australia Construction, John Laing Investments, Macquarie Capital Group, GL Events and Honeywell.
3) ‘VeNuSW’ – Plenary Group, Brookfield Multiplex, Brookfield MultiplexServices and Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Services.
Negotiations between the consortiums and NSW Government have already begun with the preferred bid to be selected by the end of 2012. Construction of the project is set for completion by late 2016, which will also include the refurbishment of the existing Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The project will be managed by Infrastructure NSW (INSW) on behalf of the state government. It will feature a minimum of 40,000 m2 of exhibition space and flexible plenary space for at least 10,000 delegates. Other facilities in the precinct will cater to sporting, musical and theatrical events for at least 12,000 people.
