HD Digital Signage Will Light Up San Diego Convention Center By Summer

March 12, 2019

San Diego Convention Center is modernizing its approach to event signage solutions by selecting Digital Conventions as its official in-house digital signage service provider.

Expected to be up and running by this summer, SDCC’s new digital signage program will allow event organizers, advertisers and sponsors to have a turn-key approach to high-definition video advertising, wayfinding and announcements, according to convention center officials.

The new partnership is just one more way the facility is working to improve the customer and guest experience, said Clifford “Rip” Rippetoe, president and CEO of San Diego Convention Center Corporation.

“Our purpose is to serve as the region’s premier gathering place, hosting trade shows, conventions and meetings that generate economic impact for the San Diego region,” Rippetoe said. “Digital signage is something our customers and guests expect from us. It also meets our needs by serving as a new revenue stream for our facility.”

The convention center’s board of directors voted to move forward with the Digital Conventions partnership in October of last year, with the five-year agreement taking effect on Jan. 7.

Slated to begin installation this spring, the new, HD signage will allow the SDCC to replace static signage — including banners, overhangs and poster boards — with modern, visually appealing, real-time messaging platforms.

Besides improving the Center’s sustainability by cutting down on waste generated from paper and print signs, the new signage will also allow event planners to reach their customers with a more engaging and customizable platform in high-traffic areas of the venue, according to SDCC officials.

The signage plan will include both static and portable LED video walls, with main signage displays located in four of the lower lobbies.

As a national provider of digital signage and visual communication for expositions, conventions and corporate events, Digital Conventions has been providing signage for the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. since 2010 and currently supports more than 3,000 events across the U.S.

“We are very excited to implement a landmark integrated digital signage program at the San Diego Convention Center,” said St. Elmo Crawford, president of Digital Conventions. “Our partnership will provide event organizers, sponsors and advertisers new opportunities to inform and engage event attendees and guests.”

He added, “We are looking to create a truly immersive event attendee experience that will continue to raise the bar for digital signage within the conference and events industry.”
