Attendees at Macau MICE Events Up 25% in Q1

Earlier this week, Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released its MICE statistics for the first quarter of 2018. A total of 328 MICE events were held in Macau in the quarter, representing a decrease of 38 events compared with the same quarter last year.

However, the total number of participants and attendees increased by 25% year-on-year reaching 278,000 participants at MICE events in the quarter. According to DSEC, a total of 314 meetings and conferences were held during the quarter, which is down by approximately 30 events. Just over 71,000 participants attended these meetings and conferences, a year-on-year increase of 31%.

Ten exhibitions were held in Macau in the quarter and they attracted 193,000 attendees compared with seven exhibitions with 163,000 attendees in the first quarter in 2017. The average size of these exhibitions grew by 65% in the quarter reaching 23,000 m2.
