Marketplace Events Acquires Edmonton Renovation Show; Ideal Home Show Will Launch in Chicago

March 23, 2014

On an acquisition roll, Marketplace Events has bought yet another show – the Edmonton Renovation Show in Alberta, Canada – from Young Marketing Services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The show, held annually in January at the Expo Centre at Northlands Agricom, will be the company's second one in the same market.

They also operate the Edmonton Home + Garden Show, which ran March 20-23 in the same facility.

"Our shows in Western Canada have been the fastest growing in our portfolio in recent years, and thus we have been extremely aggressive about expansion in this region," said Tom Baugh, CEO of Marketplace Events.

He added, "Edmonton is a fantastic consumer show market and we couldn't be happier about producing a second quality show at Northlands."

Besides the two Edmonton shows, the company also runs events in Calgary, Alberta, and two shows in Vancouver, B.C.

Marketplace recently also scooped up two home shows in Raleigh, N.C. and one in New Orleans, bringing its portfolio to a current total of 38 home shows in 22 different markets.

Next year a new home show also will launch in the Chicago market.

In separate news not related to Marketplace Events, Grayland Productions will debut a new consumer home show at McCormick Place, set to take place on Jan. 23-25, 2015.

"We are thrilled to produce a new, high-quality home show at McCormick Place,” said Grayland Productions Owner Jessica Boweak.

She added, “This will be great opportunity to connect home and garden companies with homeowners in a face to face experiential marketplace.”

Nearly 300 exhibitors and 1,000 experts will be on-site to provide professional advice, the latest products and new trends for the home and garden.

“We are pleased to welcome the Ideal Home Show to McCormick Place in 2015 and wish them great success with their inaugural event,” said David Causton, general manager of McCormick Place.

He added, “This show will no doubt be a big draw for those seeking new trends and home remodeling ideas from the area’s best experts.”

Boweakhas been in the trade show business for more than 15 years, working at dmg world media and Marketplace Events, LLC as a sales manager and show manager for more than 12 years.

She played a role in producing, launching and managing all aspects for the Oklahoma City, Denver, Minneapolis, Des Moines and Phoenix Home and Garden Shows.
