Informa Exhibitions Adds to U.S. Portfolio with Dwell on Design

May 29, 2015

After its purchase of Hanley Wood Exhibitions last November, U.K.-based Informa Exhibitions is adding onto its residential, commercial design and construction portfolio in the United States with the acquisition of Dwell on Design from Dwell Media.

Dwell on Design has two annual events in New York and Los Angeles and will be run by Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction and Real Estate division.

The buy cements a formal partnership between Dwell Media and Informa with the goal of expanding the existing shows’ scope and taking it international.

“Dwell Media, the voice of modern design, has established Dwell on Design as the largest must-attend design event in the U.S.,” said Rick McConnell, president of Informa Exhibitions U.S.

McConnell added, “The acquisition is a tremendous addition to the Informa portfolio and now strategically positions Informa to be the most significant producer of design and construction exhibitions in the country. We are excited to partner with Dwell Media to make Dwell on Design the must-attend design event worldwide.”

Providing content will be a key component of the partnership between Dwell and Informa, with Dwell Executive Vice President of Content Amanda Dameron leading the editorial team.

Since its inception in 2006, the content themes have expanded from the showfloor to offsite events at Dwell Design Week and are geared toward driving attendee engagement and exhibitor activations at Dwell on Design.

“It has long been the plan for the evolution of Dwell on Design to include international iterations of what is truly America’s largest design event,” said Dwell President and CEO Michela O’Connor Abrams.

Abrams added, “Paramount to achieving that level of growth was finding the right partner. I am confident that we have done just that with Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction and Real Estate, and that Rick McConnell and his team will make Dwell on Design the largest must-see design event worldwide.”

The acquisition announcement was made on opening day of the Dwell on Design LA 2015 event currently on tap May 29-31 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Dwell on Design NY 2015 will be held Oct. 2-4 at Clarkson Square in New York City.  Dwell on Design LA 2016 will take place June 24-26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

With the edition of the Dwell on Design events, Informa now has more than 150 shows worldwide, including World of Concrete and the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
