Diversified's President, CEO Nancy Hasselback Set to Retire

March 31, 2013

After 33 years with Diversified Communications, the company’s president and CEO, Nancy Hasselback, will be retiring June 28.

Ted Wirth, Diversified’s vice president of Business Development, will assume Hasselback’s role.

“For many years, Nancy has been at the heart of Diversified Business Communications’ expansion from the U.S. to a truly global business as well as being responsible for diversification into new industries,” said Daniel Hildreth, chairperson of the board.

He added, “Though perhaps the most important legacy Nancy leaves is from her commitment to Diversified’s values and making the company such a great place to work.”

Hasselback was named president of Diversified Business Communications in 2003 and took on her current role as CEO as well in 2009.

In 1993, diversified had four trade shows and three magazines, which has grown under Hasselback’s tenure to more than 90 products and new divisions in not only the U.S., but also overseas in Australia, Hong Kong, India, the United Kingdom and Canada.

As part of her role at Diversified, Hasselback oversaw setting up infrastructures in strategic regions, building global brands and significantly diversifying the company’s expertise and industries served.

Hasselback also headed the company during its expansion in the primary care and medical specialty industry, with the acquisition of Pri-Med and Amazing Charts, a leading electronic health record company.

Diversified's events division, Diversfied Business Communications, includes TSNN Top 250 shows such as the International Workboat Show and the International Boston Seafood Show.

Hsselback ultimately led a company with almost 700 hundred employees operating on four continents and, since 2003, grew the company’s revenues by 300 percent.

Besides her work at Diversified, she has served as the chair of the Society of Independent Show Organizer, and the Center for Exhibition Industry Research. She also is a member of the Board of Directors of UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.

Hasselback began her professional career in the seafood business as a commercial fisherman, owning and operating vessels fishing in Rhode Island and Alaska, and, according to the company, upon retirement she will head back to the sea to travel with her husband.

For Wirth, this is his second time around working for Diversified.

He first joined Diversified as Finance Director in 1994 and then served as vice president of Commercial Marine Expositions. In 1999, he left Diversified to launch a magazine and a high-end personalized stationery company.

Before returning to Diversified in 2008 in his current role of vice president of Business Development, Wirth worked for Coastal Enterprises, Inc. advising small businesses and bringing investors to low income communities via tax credit programs

“We believe that Ted’s combination of skills and values make him ideally suited to lead Diversified into a bright and creative future,” Hildreth said.

Matthew Pearce, the managing director of Diversified Communications Asia, will take on an expanded role in international business development, according to the company.
