May 19, 2013

The American Academy of Medical Administrators (AAMA) has selected SmithBucklin, an association management and services company, to provide full-service association management.

The partnership with SmithBucklin will relocate AAMA's headquarters to Chicago from Des Plaines, Ill.

“SmithBucklin’s significant expertise and breadth of resources will help AAMA retain and engage existing members as well as grow membership,” said Linda Larin, AAMA’s board chair.

She added, “This partnership will allow AAMA to develop innovative educational offerings and advance our certification program, while also extending the academy’s position as a prominent voice of the healthcare industry on a national level.”

AAMA, founded in 1957, is an association of multi-disciplinary healthcare management professionals at all levels, within all types of health organizations.

Representing approximately 2,000 healthcare professionals divided amongst seven colleges, AAMA’s mission is to advance excellence in healthcare leadership through individual relationships, multi-disciplinary interaction, practical business tools and active engagement.

Kevin Baliozian, a SmithBucklin healthcare and scientific association leader and one of the company’s 16 executive directors in the Healthcare & Scientific Industry Practice, will serve as AAMA’s executive director.

Baliozian’s successful background in transformational strategy will create added value as the organization works to achieve its goals in the wake of the Affordable Care Act and sequestration, according to SmithBucklin officials.

"We are thrilled to be working with AAMA to help accomplish its mission,” said David Schmahl, SmithBucklin's executive vice president, Healthcare & Scientific Industry Practice.

He added, “With our depth of knowledge in all areas of association management, we will work closely with the AAMA board of directors and the association’s extensive volunteer network to significantly enhance the organization’s impact on members, supporters and stakeholders.”

SmithBucklin’s Healthcare & Scientific Industry Practice supports the missions and objectives of 26 healthcare and scientific organizations serving a broad spectrum of physician, nursing, dental, clinical research, academic and multidisciplinary groups.
